  1. My ancestor is John Canady Cameron. I would like to join the DAR, but I cannot connect him with his son Absalom who lived and died in Grainger County, TN. I know Absalom was born in VA in 1791 and died in Grainger County, TN in1856. It is all over tne internet that Absalom was John Canady’s son and I have Absalom’s obit. that proves he is the sister of Florence who is a daughter of John Canady. If you can help me let me know. Thanks, frances@rayhjenkins.com

  3. Hello: My name is Roger Cameron and I am descended from John Canaday Cameron and I live in Jefferson County, TN. My great grandfather was from Grainger County and his name was Warham Easley Cameron. My Grandfather was Porter Cameron, son of his third wife Elizabeth Knowling and my father is Simmie Cameron. If you want information, I may be able to help. The Brandywine website erroneously lists his brother Simon as Lincoln’s secretary of war. His brother was Simon, but it was his brother Simon’s grandson (or great grandson) that was the Simon Cameron that was Lincoln’s first secretary of war.

Below is the ship’s registry which brought John and his father and siblings to Americal.

  4. My mistake, apparently Simon Cameron that was Lincoln’s Secretary of War may have been the son of the Simon Cameron listed as 29 years old in 1775. The Simon that was Lincoln’s secretary of war was born in 1799 and died in 1889.
